Geraldine Heimark

Geraldine Heimark, formerly of Clarkfield, died peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, January 8, 2018 at the Elim Care Center in Milaca, MN at the age of 90.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 1:30 PM at Bergen Lutheran Church in rural Granite Falls.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  

Visitation with the family will be held one hour before services at the church.

Geraldine Vivian Heimark was born in Echo, MN on May 21, 1927 to Alfred and Gertrude (Propp) Bode.  She grew up in the Echo area and was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Posen Township.  Geri attended Echo High School and later went on to study nursing at Northwestern Nursing Program.  She worked at the Clarkfield hospital as a surgical nurse and hospital administrator.  On October 1, 1955 Geri was united in marriage to Robert Heimark at Zion Lutheran Church in Tyro Township, MN.  They would have three children together, Ruth, Randal, and Roberta.  Geri retired from nursing  in 1960 after Ruth was born,  raising a family and helping with the farm.  The family made their home in Clarkfield, Alaska, England,  Arkansas, &  Montevideo.  Upon retirement Geri and Robert would travel and spend time visiting family & friends.  Robert died in 2007 and Geri would move to Zimmerman, MN and then Milaca.

Geri was a member of Bergen Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the church Circle.  She was also active in the Women’s Auxiliary and Sons of Norway.  She enjoyed gardening, quilting, crocheting, knitting, sewing and traveling.

Geri is survived by her children: Ruth (Brian) Akre, Hillman, MN and Randal (Colleen Gardiner) Heimark, Hayden, ID; 4 grandchildren: Grant Akre, Zimmerman, Jason Akre, Zimmerman, Alyssa (Akre) Johnson, Zimmerman & Jayme Akre, Montevideo; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters: Mary Olson, Detroit Lakes, MN and Dorothy Ims, Granite Falls, MN; as well as other extended relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert after 51 years of marriage; daughter: Roberta Heimark; her parents: Gertrude and Alfred Bode; and siblings: Al Bode and Shirley Timm.
