Zee Anne was born on July 7, 1951, to Harold and Marguerite (Pike) Zimmerman in Rochester, Minnesota. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith at Bethel Lutheran in Rochester and later confirmed at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls where she would serve as an organist for almost 50 years. She attended Hanley Falls Public School until 1968 and graduated from Granite Falls in 1969. After High School she first attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis where she met several lifelong friends.
Zee Anne was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Mark Reishus, on May 15, 1971, at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls, Minnesota. They moved to White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico and later to Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Mark was stationed in the Army until 1973. After moving back to Hanley Falls, Zee Anne graduated in 1974 from Southwest State University in Marshall, Minnesota, with a degree in teaching. She would later graduate in 2006 from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota with a Master’s Degree in teaching.
After graduating from college in 1974, Zee Anne started teaching fifth grade at Wood Lake and later taught music at Echo Elementary before moving to Bert Raney Elementary in Granite Falls, Minnesota, where she would retire in 2012 as a third grade teacher. After retirement, Zee Anne spent most of her time enjoying the scenery and wildlife at the family farm along the Yellow Medicine River, where she and Mark lived together for over 40 years.
Her proudest moments in life were raising her three sons and later her three grandchildren. She loved spending time with her sons and Mark while camping and fishing, or watching them play sports and she always encouraged them in band, choir, and the school musicals. As the boys all finished college and began their careers with their own families, she and Mark made sure to visit them as often as possible over the past two decades from Colorado to Oregon, and especially RV trips to Alaska after her first grandchildren were born.
Zee Anne touched many lives through teaching, music, friendship, fellowship, and faith. Her involvement with the church played a huge part in her life over the years, she directed the choir, junior choir, Sunday school music, played the organ and piano, and sang with the Hallelujah Messengers. She also enjoyed spending time with college and teacher friends (WE Group), homemakers, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She also loved being surrounded by her friends and family while baking and cooking, and loved being the perfect hostess.
Survivors include her husband Mark of Hanley Falls; three sons, Nick (Karie) of Belle Plaine, MN, Brandon (Brandy) of Albany, OR, and Tony (Dawn) of Anchorage, AK; three grandchildren, Audun, June, and Anders; two brothers Lance (Deborah) Zimmerman and Jan (Jackie) Zimmerman; brother-in-law Todd (Vicki) Reishus; nieces Julie (Steve) Smith, Marci (Tom) Doyle, Kristine Zimmerman (fiancé Cody Fischer), and Renee Lewis-Zimmerman; nephews Ryan Reishus and Robert Lewis-Zimmerman; great-nieces Addison Doyle and Kate Smith; great-nephews Jackson and Kellen Smith; and many other relatives and friends.
