William Leroy West was born on October 13, 1938, in Canby, MN, to Albert and Delores (Hoseck) West. He graduated from Canby High School and later obtained a degree in welding.
On February 4, 1961, he married Lola Pieschke of Clarkfield, MN, and they were blessed with 5 boys. Bill was a hard worker; some might say he was a workaholic. He worked at Rodger’s Hydraulic in Granite Falls for 10+ years. He also worked as a hired hand for Willis Johnson on their farm near Granite Falls, MN. Lastly, he spent his last 20+ years working at a Sugar Beet in Renville, MN, where he was the head maintenance man. After doing his shift at the Sugar Beet, he would come and run his ‘West Scrap Iron Business.' That was one of his many hobbies. Bill’s true love was camping and fishing. Whenever he had a chance, he would be on the lake doing what he loved. He loved going to the lake and spending time with family and his camping buddies. Bill had no problem making friends wherever he went. On several occasions Bill and his friends would plan a fishing trip to Canada. As a couple, Bill and Lola also enjoyed going to auctions and a few times going to polka dances.
