Virgil Victor Koepp

Virgil Victor Koepp was born February 17, 1944, at Clarkfield, Minnesota, to parents Erhardt and Lydia (Leppke) Koepp. He was the eldest of three sons. He was baptized March 19,1944, and confirmed March 30, 1958, at Zion Lutheran Church, Tyro Township.

Virg grew up on his parents farm in Omro Township and graduated from the Boyd High School in May of 1962. Virgil served in the Minnesota National Guards from 1963-1969.

After returning from the National Guard, Virg started farming. He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Jacobs of Watson, Minnesota, on September 1, 1967, at the Watson Lutheran Church.

Virg and Mary farmed in Omro and Tyro Townships until 1984. In addition to farming, Virg worked at the Dawson Mills. He enjoyed working in marketing. They had an insurance agency in DeGraff and also operated the Sunburg and Kerkhoven Country Furniture. Virg was also active in his church and served as a Trustee at St. John's of Omro Township.

Virg and Mary always had a special love for children. This included their niece and three nephews, but also their "special children," their foreign exchange children: Louis and Nayda from Mexico and Juan from Argentina.

In July of 1993, they purchased the 'Prime Rate' Liquor Store in Brainerd and were making their home there. When Virg found time, he enjoyed fishing and working with antiques.

Virgil passed away on Sunday, January 30, 1994, at the home of his parents at the age of 49 years.

Virg is survived by his wife Mary of Brainerd; his parents, Erhardt and Lydia of Omro Township; brothers Dennis (wife Sheila) of Duluth and Aden (wife Julie) of Boyd. He is also survived by niece Megan and nephews: Rob, Scott and Tim and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

Virg was preceded in death by his grandparents Herman and Pauline Koepp and Fred and Martha Leppke.
