Viola G. Haaland was born November 13, 1926, to Albert and Norma (Pearson) Girdeen in Red Wing, MN. She grew up in the rural area of Hager City, WI. and graduated from country school before attending Minnehaha Academy High School in Minneapolis. She worked at Red Wing Pottery and also at the Red Wing Shoe Factory. Viola obtained her LPN license from the Minneapolis School of Practical Nursing and worked at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis. On November 29, 1958, she and Karl Haaland of Clarkfield, were married in Red Wing, MN. They farmed the Haaland century farm and had two children: Jon and Karen. Vi worked as an LPN at the Clarkfield Care Center for 34 years and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her interests included playing guitar, drawing, painting, writing, and poetry. She enjoyed playing guitar with the musical group at her church and was a devout animal lover, always concerned about their care and treatment.
Viola passed away at the age of 96 on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at home in rural Clarkfield surrounded by her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Norma; husband, Karl in 1999; daughter, Karen in 1986, and sister, Lois in 2003.
She is survived by son, Jon (Anita) Haaland; granddaughter, Courtney (Justin Bott) Haaland; grandsons, Jonathon (fiancée Teal) Haaland, Jason (Rachel) Haaland, and Steven Haaland; great-grandsons, Cayden Bott and Thorsen Haaland; sister-in-law, Helen Leasman of Clarkfield, several nieces and nephews in the area and cousins in the Hager City, WI and Red Wing areas.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 12, 2023 at 10 AM at the J.H. Lynner Funeral Home in Clarkfield, followed by the funeral service at 11 AM. Private family interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, rural Clarkfield.
