Robert Marvin Rachie was born on November 5th, 1933, in Clarkfield, MN to Roy and Susanna (Anderson) Rachie. He was confirmed at Bergen Lutheran Church in 1948 and attended country school District #22 through the 8th grade before dedicating the rest of his life to farming. Robert worked on a farm for Wally and Clifford Anderson, whom he credits with teaching him all he knew about farming, helping in the hog barns, baling alfalfa, and caring for cows, horses, and various other animals. He mowed lawn with an old push mower, which was very difficult back then. Robert never shied away from hard work and was always doing something, even working at rendering plants. When not working, he could be found schooling Wally and Clifford in the art of walleye fishing, claiming he always had good luck on his side. These days of his younger years Robert dubbed “the good old days.” True to his Norwegian heritage, he loved lutefisk and lefse, but he especially loved time spent with his friends at the care center in Dawson playing Buck and Pinochle.
Robert passed away on Wednesday, August 3rd, 2022 at the Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson at the age of 88. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Susanna Rachie; stepfather, Orville Nyland; sister, Lorraine Graue; stepbrother, Paul Nyland, and brothers-in-law, Curtis Graue and Jon Helgeson.
He is survived by his sister, Sue Helgeson of Dawson, and nieces and nephews: Bradley, David, and Mark Graue, Jonay Moots, Brian (Denise) Graue, Jennifer Berven, Eric (Jaclyn) Helgeson, and Michael (Aleida) Helgeson.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, August 21st, 2022 at 1 PM at Bergen Lutheran Cemetery in rural Granite Falls, MN.
