Marvin Donald Saby

Marvin Donald Saby was born on December 27, 1931 in Hanley Falls, MN to Sulvan and Bernice (Lecy) Saby. He attended Hanley Falls school through the 6th grade. As a young man, he helped install the powerlines that still run through Hanley Falls before also working at a cinder block factory. Eventually he would find himself working in the lab at AMPI for 23 years of his career. In 1956, Marvin became the proud owner of 80 acres of farmland and established Saby Farms. At the Community Bible Church in Montevideo in 1962, Marvin married June Hanson and the couple raised two sons, Randy and Paul. A devoted father and fan, Marvin never missed one of his boys’ high school football games. He loved taking his family on fishing trips to Lake Winnibigoshish, Lake Mary near Alexandria, the Missouri River, South Dakota, and shark fishing in Seattle. He was known for having live crickets in his pockets to give the grandkids and heating his shed to a balmy 90 degrees so he could listen to the radio in the utmost comfort. Most of all, Marvin cherished trips to the Granite Falls pool and popcorn stand for good times and ice cream with his grandchildren. Marvin will be remembered for his generosity and always putting his family first.

 On Saturday, August 14th, 2021 at the age of 89, Marvin passed away surrounded by family in Montevideo. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sulvan and Bernice and wife of 58 years, June Saby.

 Marvin is survived by his sons, Randy (Shelley) and Paul (Stephanie) Saby; grandchildren, Lauren (Daniel) Horner, Mac (Rachel) Saby, Cody (Lauren Jette) Saby, and Ali (Patrick) Byrne; great-granddaughters, Addyson and Sadie Horner; brothers, Archie (Joan) and Odin (Dee) Saby; sister, Judy Wilson, and several nieces and nephews.

 A private family service will be held. Interment will be in the Clarkfield City Cemetery.
