LuElla Stokke, Clarkfield, Minnesota died on Monday, December 25, 2017 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota at the age of 97.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 29, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Clarkfield with Rev. Lyndy West officiating. Burial will be in the Fridhem Cemetery in Tyro Township.
Visitation will be held from 10-11:00 AM the day of the service.
LuElla Sophia (Christensen) Stokke was born in Clarkfield, MN, on January 31, 1920 to Herman and Thea (Swenson) Christensen. She was baptized and confirmed at Spring Creek Lutheran Church and graduated from Clarkfield High School. In January of 1939 LuElla was united in marriage to Vernon Stokke and they had three children. In addition to raising her family LuElla worked over 30 years at the ASCS Office in Clarkfield. Having lived her entire life in Clarkfield, she sold the house that had belonged to her grandparents and moved to the Minneapolis area In 2014 to be closer to her family.
Rich with talent, Lu spent many hours knitting blankets, sweaters, quilting, painting landscapes, and doing Scandinavian needlework. She enjoyed playing her clarinet, organ, accordion and mouthorgan, playing all by ear without sheet music.
A lover of nature, Lu always had beautiful flowers surrounding her house and planted numerous trees to also beautify her yard.
LuElla is survived by her daughters: Verna (Roger) Tweiten, River Falls, WI and Wanda (Jim) Dotseth, Plymouth, MN; six grandchildren: Troy Tweiten, Käri (Scott) Tweiten Macdonald, Eric (Jennifer) Tweiten, Jennica (Paul) Burgh, Deena (Wade) Laugen; five great-grandchildren: Caleb, Hannah, Avery, Maia, and Lily; as well as extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vernon, an infant daughter, five brothers: Hanford, Oren, Clifford, Herbert, Walter, and two sisters: Irene Rodness and Mavis Etrheim.
