Betty Marie Bailie was born on April 23, 1928 in Granite Falls, MN to Joseph and Hazel (Shellenbarger) Bailie. She grew up with seven brothers and one sister. Betty was baptized on November 20, 1951 at the Granite Falls Lutheran Church. On December 29, 1944, she married Arvid “Bud” Severson in Willmar, MN at the Methodist Parsonage and the couple had two sons, Russell and Sheldon. The couple then resided on a farm near Raymond, MN until Bud entered the Army and served in Japan for 18 months towards the end of WWII. In 1953, Betty and Bud moved to Clarkfield where they owned the popular “B&B café” for several years.
A woman of several talents, Betty enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, ladies bowling league in Montevideo, and her baked goods could be found for sale regularly in the Clarkfield school gym bake sales.
On Tuesday, March 2nd, 2021, at the age of 92, Betty died at the Clarkfield Care Center. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Hazel; husband of nearly 65 years, Bud; brothers, Lester, Arthur, Harold, Ralph, Bill, and Edward Bailie, and sister, Edith King.
Betty is survived by her sons, Russell of Clarkfield and Sheldon (Lana) Severson of Gresham, OR; grandchildren, Ryan, Derek, Cari, Aaron, Amy, and Krista; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Richard Bailie, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021 at 2 PM at Hillcrest Cemetery in Granite Falls.
