Avis Marie (Kilpatrick) Stangeland

Avis Marie Kilpatrick was born on November 29, 1936 in Clear Lake, SD to Andrew and Hilda (Rehder) Kilpatrick. On August 1st, 1955, Avis was united in marriage to Oscar Stangeland in Lake Kampeska, SD and the couple had four children: Debbie, David, Allen, and Brenda. The family resided in Gary, SD for a short time before moving to their long-term home in Clarkfield. Avis loved gardening and helping to care for her neighbors’ lawns, reading, and embroidering. Upon her move to the Clarkfield Care Center, Avis really came out of her shell and made friends easily with her sweet and bubbly nature.

On Wednesday, February 16th, 2022, at the age of 85, Avis passed away with family by her side at the Clarkfield Care Center. She is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Hilda Kilpatrick; husband, Oscar Stangeland; brothers, Maynard and Donald Kilpatrick, and sisters, Elda Mae and Helen Stangeland.

Avis is survived by her children, Debbie Lewis, David Stangeland, Allen Stangeland, and Brenda Negen; grandchildren, Chris and Jon Negen, Heidi Schumack, Tiffany Rios, and Amanda Wicks; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Leo and Richard Kilpatrick, and sister, June Thomas.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 26th, 2022 at 12 PM at the Clarkfield Assembly of God Church, followed by the memorial service at 1 PM. Interment to follow in the Clarkfield City Cemetery.
