William Martin Nelson was born June 24, 1896, at Clarkfield, Minnesota to Jacob and Martha Nelson. He was born and raised in the Clarkfield area, baptized and confirmed in the Luthean faith. He was married to Randie S. Berg on February 28, 1917. They farmed in the Clarkfield area for 35 years. In 1951 he left the farm, moved into Clarkfield where he sold insurance for State Farm until he retired. He was active in community affairs, a member of the Church Choir, Hauge Male Chorus and other organizations. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Martha (Winson) Nelson and one brother Arnold Nelson and one sister Francis Nelson. He is survived by his wife Randie and five sons: Leonard of Hutchinson, Minnesota, Robert of Mendicino, California, Leroy of Willmar, Minnesota, Eldrid of Granite Falls, Minnesota, and Arvid of Trenton, Illinios; nineteen grandchildren; and nineteen great grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by relatives and friends.
