William Lewis Lee was born June 19, 1895, at Clarkfield, Minnesota, the son of Andrew and Christine (Winson) Lee. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith. He attended the local school and grew to manhood in this community. Mr. Lee enlisted in the United States Army in 1917 and served in the European theater. He was honorably discharged in 1919. He then served as grain dealer a year in Clarkfield when he was transferred to Watertown, South Dakota. After two years in that community, he went to Northwood, North Dakota, where he has since resided. May 30, 1924, he was united in marriage to Miss Mabel Johnson of Clarkfield at Montevideo with Pastor H.O. Lee, a cousin, officiating. Following their marriage, the couple went to Northwood where he was employed by the Great Western Grain Company. In 1940 he was appointed manager of the Equity Elevator Company, a position he held at the time of his death. Bill was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northwood and a member of the American Legion Post No. 92. He served as city fire chief for 18 years and on the city council for eight years. For four years, he was president of the North Dakota State Firemens's Association. He passed away suddenly March 1, 1960, at his home, at the age of 64 years. He leaves on this earth, his beloved wife; his son, Wayne, and daughter-in-law, Mary Ann, and granddaughter, Deborah Ann; three brothers and four sisters, namely: Bessie (Mrs. Aleck Thompson) of Minneapolis, Orris of Seattle, Washington, Arthur and Ernest of Clarkfield, Lillian (Mrs. Darrel Crane) and Arlene (Mrs. Leslie Danielson) of Dawson, Minnesota, and Marion (Mrs. Arthur Mittelstadt) of Portland, Oregon. Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother, Alvin, and his son, William Lyle, who passed away in 1931, at the age of six. IN MEMORY OF WILLIAM L.
