William Johnson was born December 13, 1882, in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, one of six children born to Johan and Johanna (Monson) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in Swede Prairie Township. On February 26, 1919, he was united in marriage to Elvera Ida Vanstrom. To this union four children were born, all of whom survive: Vernetta (Mrs. William Krengel) of South St. Paul, Minnesota, Deloris (Mrs. Archie Johnson) of St. Paul, Elden of Clarkfield and Helen (Mrs. Kermit Skaar) of Minneota, Minnesota. Mr. Johnson spent most of his life in Swede Prairie Township where he farmed until his retirement. He passed away March 9, 1963, at the Marshall Convalescent Home, Marshall, Minnesota, at the age of 80 years. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Sophie Semlow of Minneapolis, besides a number of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Marie (Mrs. Anton Larson), Annie (Mrs. Charles Kittelson) and Hilma (Mrs. Gust Anger); and one brother, John.
