William Burke was born December 23, 1889, to parents Francis and Jane (Strain) Burke at Boston, Massachussetts, where he spent his early years working as a carpenter, until he entered the United States Navy and served his country from 1918 until 1921. He married Catherine Nicolson on February 14, 1925, celebrating their golden wedding anniversary in February of this year. Mr. and Mrs. Burke had one daughter, Elaine, Mrs. Norman Wold. William spent his later years working as a carpenter at the Boston Naval Shipyards, until he retired in 1963. In November of 1967, the Burkes moved to Clarkfield where he resided until the time of his death. He had been in failing health since September, and passed away April 12, 1975, at the University Hospital in Minneapolis, at the age of 85 years. Survivors include his widow; daughter; son-in-law; and three granddaughters: Cathy (Mrs. Tom Angus) of St. Paul, Minnesota, Pam (Mrs. Dan Engebretson) of Mankato, Minnesota, and Chris of Clarkfield; one step sister, Mrs. Frank Lodge of Milton, Massachussetts; and one step brother, Alex Parker of Southampton, Massachussetts.
