Wilhelm Selmer Berg was born on December 25, 1909, to Carl and Caroline Berg near Humboldt, Iowa. His family moved to Clarkfield, Minnesota, in 1911 where Wilhelm attended and graduated from high school. Wilhelm was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On September 26, 1936, he married Ruth Vereide. Six children were born to this union: Carol, Joyce, Charles, Marilyn, Margaret and Stanley. Wilhelm's first wife, Ruth, passed away in 1960. He married Dorothy Viola Mattison on January 1, 1972. Dorothy passed away in 1997. Wilhelm farmed his entire life until retiring in 1979. He was active in the Lutheran Church and also in the Gideons. He was involved in a local jail ministry, was a Sunday School teacher, a deacon, and was involved with the Christian Mens Fellowship. Wilhelm is survived by Carol (and Marlow) Norum of Willmar, Minnesota, Joyce (and Pete) Stovel of Brandon, Manitoba, Charles (and Rose) Berg of Longwood, Florida, Marilyn (and Dennis) Murphy of Plymouth, Minnesota, Margaret (and George) Sommerfeld of Shoreview, Minnesota, and Stan (and Paula) Berg of Clarkfield, Minnesota; 16 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one sister, Judith Rysdahl; one brother, Harold Berg; and numerous sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Wilhelm was preceded in death by his parents; wife Ruth; wife Dorothy; brothers: Arne, Art, Clarence; and sisters: Mamie Benson, Christine Benson, Clara Severson, and Joella Berg.
