Wilfred LeRoy Martin was born May 23, 1912, in Iowa, to parents Albert and Emma (Nelson) Martin. He was baptized by Rev. Danielson at the Washington Lutheran Church in Duncombe, Iowa, June 23, 1912. Bill was confirmed by Rev. A.M. Olson on June 9, 1946. Bill attended school in Clarkfield. He was united in marriage to Margaret Vien on June 10, 1939, at the Cottonwood parsonage. To this union two sons were born, Lyle and Howard. Bill did some farming and worked for Kay Sorenson Conoco business. For thirty-five years he did livestock trucking to South St. Paul. He loved to fish and hunt and was active in the church. He also served on the Cemetery Board, Fire Department and City Council. Bill died May 31, 1994, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital at the age of 82. Bill is survived by his wife Margaret, his two sons: Lyle and wife Doris of Hazel Run and Howard and wife Jeryl of Clarkfield; five grandchildren: Greg and wife Kristi, Jodi and husband Scott Sneller, Amy, Emily and Adam Martin; and great granddaughter Ashly Sneller. Bill is also survived by brothers Lloyd and wife Martha of Green Isle, Minnesota, Marvin and wife Eleanor of Vancouver, Washington, Ordell and wife Virginia of Park Rapids; sister Phylis and husband Orville Hveem of Piedmont, South Dakota; sisters-in-law Hazel Martin of Hanley Falls and Mildred Martin of Hibbing. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Myron and Allard, and sister Pauline. Also by brothers-in-law Hartford Kittleson and Olaf Froland, and one nephew.
