Obituary

Wilfred Colmar August Laechelt, son of August and Bertha (Koepp) Laechelt was born July 17, 1918, at Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine County near Boyd, Minnesota. He was baptized August 11, 1918, at Zion Lutheran Church of Tyro Township by the Reverand Lattman. He renewed the Baptizmal covenant at the same church on August 2, 1931, with the Reverand Rosin officiating. On May 16, 1941, he married Clara Rosin at Zion Lutheran Church with the Reverand Rosin officiating. The Lord blessed this union with one son and three daughters. They farmed in Yellow Medicine and Hennepin Counties. In 1964 they moved into Clarkfield, Minnesota, where he was employed at the milk drying plant. From August 1967 until August 1983 he was a steam engineer at Mankato State University and has since been intermittently employed there. Wilfred was active in all churches where he held membership serving as a church officer, teaching Sunday School, ushering, and was a Lutheran Laymen's League member and has held offices with same. At present he was active in membership with the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd of Mankato. The Lord called Wilfred home on Friday, January 24, 1986, at St. Mary's Hospital of Rochester, Minnesota. He attained the age of 67 years, 6 months and 7 days. Surviving him are his wife, Clara, of Mankato; son James of Bloomington, Minnesota; daughters and sons-in-law, Miriam and Larry Schuler of Granite Falls, Minnesota, Rhoda and Jerry Meschke of Redwood Falls, Minnesota, and Rachel and Mark Burgess of Mankato; grandchildren, Brenda, Chris and Corey Schuler, Matthew Burgess, and Ryan Laechelt; sister, Elda (Mrs. Harry) Anderson of Clarkfield; one niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held at 7:00 p.m. from the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Mankato on Tuesday, January 28, 1986, with Pastor Victor Roth officiating. Organist was Kenneth Tate. Services were also held on Wednesday, January 29, 1986, at 11:00 a.m. from the Zion Lutheran Church of Tyro Township with Pastors Charles Simmonson and Victor Roth. Organist was Kathy Jahn. Casket Bearers were David Anderson, David Koepp, Greg Koepp, Mark Laechelt, Gary Steinke and Richard Werner with burial in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.
