Walter Sylvester Oraas was born August 31, 1904, to Aslak and Julia Rikke Oraas in Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was a farmer, enjoyed dancing and loved the solitde of rural living. He loved to read and was a typical "overalls" farmer. Walter remained a single man. He attended school in District 23, rural Clarkfield and was a 1924 graduate of Morris Agriculture College of Morris, Minnesota. Walter passed away Sunday, December 29, 1991, at the age of 87, a patient of the University of Minnesota Hospitals of Minneapolis. He is survived by his brothers, Oral Oraas of Clarkfield and Ernest Grass and wife Avonelle of Hemet, California; brother-in-law Peder Bakken of the Clarkfield Care Center. Also one grand niece and one great grand nephew. He is also survived by his chosen family, Vivian Satre, widow of Harland Satre of Montevideo, Minnesota, Kristine and Barry Bahl, Jennifer and Brian, Sandra Anderson, Heidi, Joshua and Matthew, and Julie Satre and Amy Jo Stringer. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Myrtle Oraas and Grace Oraas Bakken. Two brothers, Marvin and Telford, his niece, Faye Lou Boyer, and his sister-in-law, Lois Harper Oraas.
