Walter Ernest Emil Footh was born December 8, 1901, in Wergeland Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the son of Frederick and Auguste (Schulz) Footh. He was baptised Christmas Day, December 25, 1901, at St. John's Lutheran Church of Omro Township by Pastor E. G. Fritz. In 1909 he moved with his parents to Omro Township, confirmed April 16, 1916, by Pastor Wm. F. Pankow at Saint John's Lutheran Church of Omro Township. On December 15, 1931, he was united in marriage to Helen Hartke at St. John's Lutheran Church of Wood Lake, Pastor C. G. Schmidt officiating. Following their marriage they farmed near Boyd, Minnesota, for 15 years. Purchasing their own farm in Maxwell Township, Lac qui Parle County, they farmed there for 23 years until retirement and moved to Wood Lake, Minnesota, December 19, 1970, where they purchased a home. During the many years as a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Omro Township, he served as Chairman of the Church Council, Elder and on the Church Parochial School Board. He was an active member of the Maxwell Farm Bureau for 24 years. April 19, 1972, he suffered a stroke and was hospitalized at the Clarkfield Community Hospital for five weeks, transfering to the Montevideo Hospital for an additional seven weeks. Then to his home in Wood Lake where his loving wife attended his needs. Saturday morning, November 25, 1972 he entered the Montevideo Hospital and submitted to surgery at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, November 26. Surgery was successfully done to remove his appendix but his heart failed, passing away Sunday afternoon, at the age of 70 years, 11 months, 18 days. He is survived by his wife Helen; two sisters, Mrs. Walter (Caroline) Galow of Granite Falls, Minnesota, and Mrs. Harold (Leona) Anhalt of Boyd, Minnesota; two aunts: Mrs. Henrietta Eckhardt of Blue Earth, Minnesota, and Mrs. Hannah Footh of Mankato, Minnesota; Aunt and Uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schulz of Enid, Oklahoma; Uncle, Mr. Reinhard Schulz of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; and Aunt, Mrs. Ted Schulz of St. Cloud, Minnesota; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ervin, who died in infancy. God bless his memory among us.
