Wallace Clarence Willander was born in Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on September 23, 1907, to parents Edwin and Clara (Johnson) Willander. He went to meet his maker on Friday evening, July 23, 1971, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Nursing Home, St. Paul, Minnesota. Wallace was engaged in farming until he was called to serve his country. He entered the Army on April 30, 1942, and two years later, in April of 1944, he served overseas. He became a sargent and received the Bronze Star as a gunner in the 9th Army. After Faithfully completing his military duty, he returned to farming. Wallace was well-known, as he lived in the Clarkfield community all his life. He leaves to mourn his passing four brothers and eight sisters: Orin and Ruth of Clarkfield, Mrs. Arthur Loose of Montevideo, Minnesota, Mrs. Vira Nodshilder of Marysville, Washington, Edith and Donald Willander of Minneapolis, Mrs. Bernice Johnson of Wenatchee, Washington, Jesse Willander of Clarkfield, Mrs. Kenneth Weider of Reseda, California, Mrs. Glenn Larson of Clarkfield, Mrs. Luther Johnson of Eugene Oregon, Elsmore Willander of Aberdeen, South Dakota; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Walfred Hassel of Montevideo, Minnesota; two uncles: Nick Erickson of Hutchinson, Minnesota, and Elmer Nelson of Northfield, Minnesota; one aunt, Mrs. Myrtle Willander of Minneapolis; and a number of nieces and nephews. Wallace will be missed by many friends and acquaintances. His departure will be an undescribable loss not only to his loved ones but to all who knew him. Preceding him in death are his parents, Edwin and Clara Willander and one brother, Reynold Willander. IN MEMORY OF Wallace C.
