Waldemar Schjelderup Hauge was born to Dr. Malvin M. Hauge and Anna Schjelderup Hauge on July 21, 1909, in Clarkfield, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Clarkfield Lutheran Church and graduated from Clarkfield High School. He attended the University of Minnesota and returned to Clarkfield to run the family farm and manage the business affairs of his father's medical practice. He continued in the capacity of business manager of the Clarkfield Clinic when his brother, Dr. Malvin I. Hauge, assumed the family medical practice. He later served as Administrator of the Clarkfield Community Hospital. On August 15, 1948, he was united in marriage to Elsie Marjorie Tollefson at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, by Dr. Emil Swenson. To this union two children were born, Laurel and Paul. Waldemar was a lifelong citizen of Clarkfield and served the community in many ways. He was instrumental in developing the Clarkfield Community Hospital. He served as Mayor of Clarkfield and was involved in many community activities throughout his life. He was a strong supporter of the Clarkfield Lutheran Church and served as a deacon. He loved music and acted as accompanist at many local weddings. His strong loyalty to Clarkfield and its people has earned him many friends. He died suddenly on Friday, April 20, 1990, at the Montevideo Hospital, following a period of severe illness. He is survived by his son, Paul Hauge; daughter and son-in-law, Laurel and Brandon Goehl; two grandchildren, Jenna Rose and James; sister Cecilia Hauge of Edina, Minnesota; brother Dr. Erling Hauge and his wife Emiline of Sun City West, Arizona; sister, Mrs. Richard Stueland of Clarkfield; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Dr. Malvin I. Hauge; sister Dagmar Akre and his beloved wife Elsie. His caring nature, kindness and integrity will be remembered by his friends and family. Blessed be his memory.
