Virginia B. Olson was born in Hutchinson, Minnesota on August 30, 1920, to Virgil and Helen (Miller) Olson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. She graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1939. Virginia and Lloyd Halvorson were married May 23, 1942 in the Granite Falls Lutheran Church. To this union five children were born, Linda, Mike, Verle, Dennis, and Dean. From January 1981 to July 1985 Virginia was mayor of Hanley Falls; she was a member of Hanley Falls American Legion Auxiliary Post 127 and Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church Ladies Aid. Virginia loved to paint outdoor scenes and was an avid salt and pepper shaker collector of nearly 1,200 different sets. Virginia passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 4, 1991, in the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital at the age of 71. Surviving Virginia are her husband Lloyd of Hanley Falls, daughter, Linda Schindele and her husband George of Granite Falls, and four sons, Mike of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Verle and his wife Dorothy of Mounds View, Minnesota, Dennis of Fairmont, Minnesota, and Dean and his wife Joy of Granite Falls, Minnesota. Seven grandchildren, Danielle, Stacey and Mike Kvendru, Carrie and Robert Halvorson, John and Brian Schindele. Also surviving are sisters, Granis (Mrs. Don) Miller of Mankato, Minnesota and Sharon (Mrs. Gene) Buchholz of Granite Falls, Minnesota, and several nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents.
