Obituary

Virgil Milroy Stevens was born at Hanley Falls, Minnesota, on October 5, 1911, the oldest son of Carl A. and Mary (Gullickson) Stevens. He was baptized and confirmed in the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church at Hanley Falls by Rev. Ole Lokensgaard. Virgil graduated from the Hanley Falls High School in 1929 and was engaged in farming until 1942 when he inlisted in the United States Navy. He served in the European Theater of World War II until his discharge in 1945 when he returned to the farm. On June 24, 1950, he was united in marriage to Mildred Iverson of Hanley Falls at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa, by Rev. Hauscom. They farmed several years in the Hazel Run and Hanley Falls area before he began his work at the Cottonwood Co-op Oil Company Fertilizer Plant at Cottonwood. Due to ill health he entered the Veteran's Hospital in Minneapolis last December. He had been at home several weeks when he became suddenly worse and was returned to the Veteran's Hospital, where he passed away April 26, 1975, at the age of 63 years. He leaves to mourn his wife, Mildred; two brothers: Maurice of Hanley Falls and Roger of Hazel Run; one foster sister: Wilma Stevens Bailey of Arcadia, California; and several nieces and nephews. Virgil was preceded in death by his father on February 14, 1930, and his mother on February 27, 1959. IN MEMORY OF VIRGIL M.
