Virgil H. Beecher was born on August 3, 1931, in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the son of Herbert and Jenny (Carlson) Beecher. He attended country school in rural Canby. Virgil farmed his entire life on the farm south of Clarkfield. He enjoyed mechanical work and often worked for the neighbors on repairs. He lived on the farm with his brother, Leonard, and sister, Janice until 2002, when he moved to Granite Falls. He passed away August 18, 2007, at the Granite Manor in Granite Falls. Virgil is survived by sisters Janice Beecher of Granite Falls and Lorraine Appleseth of Minneapolis and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Jenny Beecher; brothers: Leonard, Floyd, Armand and Roger; and sisters: Doris Anderson and Harriet Oman.
