Violet Elaine (Wilson) Long was born at home in Hazel Run, Minnesota, on July 6, 1922, to parents Melvin Elliot Wilson and Loretta Anna (Hackbarth) Wilson. She was baptized on August 6, 1922, at the Hazel Run Lutheran Church. Vi and Burdett Charles Long were married at the Hazel Run Lutheran Church on October 21, 1942. They were the parents of a daughter, Bonita. Prior to her marriage, Vi worked at the Hazel Run Elevator and following their marriage they moved to Portland, Oregon, where both worked at the Portland Shipyard. The Long's then moved back to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she worked at a Medical office and then to Hazel Run where she was the Postmaster for 32 years. Vi had many interests. She loved raising 'African Violets' and had a shop in her home. She enjoyed traveling, going to movies, photography, cats, geneology, crossword puzzles, her computer, shopping, reading, visiting with friends and relatives and the Minnesota Twins. She also enjoyed working at church and at the Fall Fesitval and the church centennial. She passed away at the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital, Granite Falls, Minnesota, on Saturday evening, May 11, 2002, at the age of 79 years, 10 months, and 4 days. She is survived by her daughter and best friend, Bonnie Cordes of Clarkfield, Minnesota; sisters-in-law: Margarit Warnke of Wood Lake, Minnesota, and Gwen Boerner of Fairmont, Minnesota; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Burdett Long.
