Vernon M. Stensrud, 63, of Cottonwood, Minnesota, died Wednesday, January 29, 1986, at the Weiner Memorial Medical Center in Marshall, Minnesota. Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 1, 1986, at St. Lucas Lutheran Church, Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, with Pastor John Christianson officiating. The organist was Ann Stensrud with solo by Pastor John Christianson. Casket Bearers were Bernard Belling, Dennis Broughton, John Kolhei, Erling Kompelien, Raymond Kompelien, Donovan Stensrud and Larry Stensrud. Final Resting Place is the St. Lucas Lutheran Cememtery of Normania Township. He was born May 25, 1922, to Lena Stensrud Thorstienson in Minneota, Minnesota, baptized at St. Lucas Church in Cottonwood and confirmed at Clarkfield Lutheran Church. He attended and graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1941. He served in the occupation forces in Japan during the Second World War. He married Ruth Belling on October 22, 1944, at English Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. They farmed in Swede Prairie Township for 10 years and then moved to Normania Township for 10 years where he farmed until his death. He is survived by wife Ruth; daughters, Susan (Mrs. Joe) Ackerman of Atwater, Minnesota, Sandra (Mrs. Bruce) Torke of Wood Lake; sons, Steven and wife of Cottonwood and Stan and wife Connie of Marshall; and seven grandchildren.
