Vernon Englebert Rupp was born July 21, 1915, to Herman and Maggie (Thiel) Rupp, on a farmstead west of Hazel Run, Minnesota. He was baptized into the Catholic Faith at Montevideo, Minnesota, on July 31, 1918. He attended school in Hazel Run until the third grade. The family then moved to Mannorville, Minnesota, where they lived for two years. The family moved back to the Granite Falls, Minnesota area to the farm on Hwy 67, where his brother Glen lives at this time. Vernon was Confirmed in the Catholic Faith at Renville, Minnesota. He attended country school through the eighth grade. Vernon then farmed with his father until his marriage. On November 24, 1936, Vernon was united in marriage to Berdella Raddohl at her parental home in Hazel Run. This Union was blessed with two girls. They farmed in the Hazel Run area for four years. They then moved to the Sioux Agency Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, and farmed the land that is now the State Park for six years. On December 8, 1946, he was confirmed into the Hazel Run Lutheran Church by Pastor Arnold Olson. In 1948 they moved to the Clarkfield area where he lived and farmed for 27 years. In 1970 they moved to Berdella's Home place at Hazel Run where he lived and farmed until his death on Tuesday, October 20, 1987. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Mildred (Mrs. Clarence Monson); four brothers, Elmer, Herman Jr., Vincent and Kenneth; one nephew Milford (Bud) Rupp. Vernon is survived by his wife, Berdella; children, Sandra and Robert Weber of Granite Falls, and Zona and Roger Larson of Clarkfield; Grandchildren, Hollis and Janice Weber of Hazel Run, Randy and Beth Larson of Montevideo, Roylnn and Barbara Larson of Detroit, Michigan, Todd Weber of Ohio, Valerie and Scott Santjer of Granite Falls, Kyle and Pam Weber of Hazel Run, Tanya Weber and Bobbie Weber of Granite Falls; Great grandchiIdren, Rachel and Scott Larson, Zachary and Tyler Santjer and Blaine Weber. Vernon is survived by three sisters, Marie (Mrs. Arliegh Ernston), Dorothy (Mrs. Ed. Rude), and Margorie Rupp all of Minneapolis; one brother, Glen Rupp of Granite Falls; and a host of nieces and nephews. Vernon was active in the Hazel Run Lutheran Church. He served as Church Secretary for many years. He also served as Luther League advisor for many years. He was a 4-H Leader for 18 years and helped organize the Saddle Club in Clarkfield. He was a charter member of the Winge Whirlers Square Dance Club at Clarkfield. He always worked with the youth and helped organize programs for the youth while the girls were active in high school. He was a member of the Toastmasters Club, Hazel Run Lutheran Brotherhood and the Kogudus Renewal Ministry.
