Verna O. Uveness was born on October 29, 1910, to parents Ole and Josephine (Toftness) Uveness near Boyd, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church of Boyd. She attended rural country school near Boyd. Verna and her sister would do cleaning for families in the Boyd area. Verna moved to Park Avenue Apartments in Madison, Minnesota, in 1973. Her sister, Orpha, lived there, but each had their own apartment. While at Park Avenue she enjoyed cutting blocks for quilts. The quilts were given to those in need. She kept the Community Room immaculate with her cleaning and dusting. She provided prizes for the weekly Bingo parties and loved Birthday Club. All this was done with her handicap of being in a wheelchair. She moved to Madison Lutheran Home in 2003 and was living there at the time of her death on Thursday, January 10, 2008, at the age of 97 years, 2 months, and 11 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Omar and sister Orpha. Verna has no surviving relatives, however, she is survived by many friends at Park Avenue Apartments and Madison Lutheran Home. Blessed be her memory.
