October 17, 1903 – March 22, 1995
Verna Lokensgard was born October 17, 1903, in rural Boyd to Julius and Helen (Stevens) Kirkeby. She attended a rural school near Boyd, and on November 9, 1929, she married Oscar T. Lokensgard at Mankato, Minnesota. For 13 summers Verna and Oscar traveled to Yellowstone National Park where they were caretakers, which they dearly loved and worked out well for them as Oscar was a rural school teacher the rest of the year. Verna filled in the rest of her time as a dedicated homemaker and church worker. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its Womens Association until July, 1990, when she moved to St. Luke's Lutheran Home in Blue Earth, Minnesota where she could be closer to her family. Verna passed away Wednesday, March 22, 1995, at the St. Luke's Lutheran Home. She had attained the age of 91 years, 5 months, and 5 days. Mrs. Lokensgard is survived by a sister Belfay McCoy of Delavan, Minnesota, double nephew Merland Lokensgard and wife Jan; double niece, Yvonne (Sue) Carlson; double niece Ravae Sonquist and husband Duane. Also surviving are nephew Orville Kasperson and nieces Gloria (Kirkeby) Hoffman and husband Bob; Bernice Edge and husband Merle; Evelyn Whitney and husband Walter; and Carrie Pearson and husband Ray, as well as several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Ordway and Telford Kirkeby and sister Mavis (Kirkeby) Lokensgard.
