Torjus J. Ree, son of Jens J. Ree and Anna Stangeland Ree, was born at the Ree farm in Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on June 28, 1887. He was baptized into the Christian faith on August 28, 1887, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church near Hanley Falls, Minnesota, by Rev. Johannes Halverson. In 1887 the St. Lucas Lutheran Church was built and there he confirmed his Christian faith on June 30, 1901, by Rev. Martin Romstad. He was a faithful member of that congregation during his entire lifetime. In 1910, he graduated from Augustana College at Canton, South Dakota. On November 25, 1914, he was united in marriage to Cora Brusven at St. Lucas Lutheran Church by Rev. Martin Romstad. To this union two children were born: one daughter, Ardell (Mrs. Nalum Lerstad) and one son, Harold. For the past two years, he has been in failing health and on February 19, 1968, he entered the Granite Falls Hospital where he passed away on Saturday morning, April 13, 1968, at the age of 80 years. Torjus was preceded in death by his wife, Cora, who passed away four years prior, April 11, 1964, and his son, Harold, who was killed while serving his country during World War II; by his parents; three sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his daughter, Ardell (Mrs. Nalum Lerstad) and one sister Inga (Mrs. Elvin A. Olson) of Milan, Minnesota; and a number of nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
