Tommy Olai Hanson was born August 21, 1888, to Mads and Helen (Thompson) Hanson in Champaign County, Illinois, where he was also baptized in the Lutheran faith. He was confirmed at Kanawha, Iowa, by Rev. Holm and at the age of fifteen moved to Boyd, Minnesota, with his parents. On January 28, 1914, he was united in marriage to Alpha Hilda Spande in Toronto, South Dakota, by Rev. G.O. Mona. To this union three sons and two daughters were born: Clifford, who died at the age of three; twins, Elaine and Allen, who died at birth; Milo of Dawson, Minnesota; and Idella, Mrs. Darrell Nikolaisen of Hanley Falls, Minnesota. Tommy farmed in the Boyd community for 20 years and operated the Spring Creek store ten years. He then went back to the farm for a year and a half and in 1945, moved to Clarkfield where he was living at the time of his death. He passed away suddenly at 71 years of age, while visiting in Granite Falls, Minnesota. He is survived by his wife, Alpha; son, Milo, and daughter, Idella and their families; two sisters, Mabel (Mrs. Manfred Swenson) of Dawson and Mrs. Helen Torgerson of Clarkfield; three brothers, Ben of Cokato, Minnesota, Gerhard of Granite Falls, and Harold of Clarkfield; besides a host of friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; sister (Mabel) who died at the age of one and one-half; and sister, Bertha (Mrs. Oscar Olson). IN MEMORY OF TOMMY O.
