Tollef Olson, the son of Nels and Aase Olson, was born on March 20, 1884, at Callendar, Iowa. He was baptized on April 9, 1884, at the Vinge Synod Church at Callendar, Iowa, by Rev. Gramstad and was confirmed at the same church in 1899. Tollef left his home in Callendar to homestead in Portal, North Dakota, where he became acquainted with Miss Anna Nere and the two were wed on February 13, 1911, by Rev. J.S. Strand at the Lutheran Church at Benson, Minnesota. This union was blessed with three sons: Elder, Arnold and Donald and three daughters: Hazel, Nevina and Ruth. Tollef and his wife continued to farm in Sliefer, Iowa, at Oakland, Amiret, Hanley Falls and at Clarkfield, Minnesota. About ten years ago, Mr. Olson retired and made his home in Hanley Falls where on Sunday afternoon, August 8, 1965, he succumbed to a heart attack at the age of 81 years. His wife preceded him in death. He is survived by his sons: Elder of Fond du Lac, Wisconsiin, Arnold of Montevideo, Minnesota, and Donald of Loe Summit, Missouri; his daughters: Mrs. Hazel Melzer of Nelson, Minnesota, Mrs. Nevina Olson of Willmar, Minnesota, and Mrs. Ruth Idso of Fargo, North Dakota; seven grandchildren; one brother, Arthur of Albert Lea, Minnesota; two sisters: Mrs. Selmer Tukua and Mrs. Ida Solberg of Long Beach, California.
