Tilda Gautefall Johnson was born May 17, 1889, in Hazel Run Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, daughter of Erick and Anna (Kjelleberg) Gautefall. She was baptized and confirmed by the Rev. J.D. Runsvald. She grew to womanhood on the farm. On March 15, 1913, she was united in marriage to Ole Johnson of Hazel Run by Rev. Salhus. To this union two daughters were born: Gladys (Mrs. Kenneth) Wilson who died June 11, 1955, and Edna (Mrs. Eldor) Quistad of Montevideo, Minnesota. Mrs. Johnson lived in the Hazel Run community until November 13, 1964, when she had a light stroke. She and her husband then moved to Montevideo to be nearer their daughter and family. She recovered quite well from her stroke. She passed away on January 15, 1970, at the age of 80 years, from another stroke. Preceding her in death were her parents; her daughter, Gladys; three sisters: Emma, who died in infancy, Molly (Mrs. Halvor) Dyrdahl, and Alma (Mrs. Halvor) Johnson; and three brothers: Alfred who died in infancy, Olie and Helmer Gautefall. To mourn her loss are her husband, Ole; daughter, Edna; two grandsons: Gary and Toby Quistad; two sisters: Emma (Mrs. Albert) Mau of Hazel Run and Mable (Mrs. George) Johnson of Granite Falls; and a host of nieces and nephews.
