Thrina Helmina
(Tufte) Halverson
June 5, 1902 – May 2, 1990
Thrina Helmina Halverson was born at the home of her parents, Anund and Selma Tufte, in Hazel Run, Minnesota, on June 5, 1902. She attended high school at both Grand Marais, Minnesota, and later Granite Falls, Minnesota, where she graduated in 1920. While in high school she pursued the development of her vocal and piano musical talents. She was later well known for her work as a choir director and chorister. After high school Thrina atteded American Business School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from which she received a degree. She then obtained employment with the Daily Market Record in Minneapolis where she worked as a proofreader for many years. While living in Minneapolis she was baptized and confirmed as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on February 26, 1922. During her visits home to Hazel Run, Thrina met Hardine Halverson. They were married in April of 1930 and lived on a farm near Hanley Falls for many years. They had one son, Archie, who along with Hardine preceded Thrina in death. Thrina, a lifelong resident of the Hazel Run and Hanley Falls areas, passed away peacefully at the Granite Falls Manor on Wednesday, May 2, 1990 at the age of 87. Thrina is survived by her two brothers, Harold Tufte and his wife of Granite Falls and Ralph Tufte and his wife of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; one sister-in-law, Erma Tufte; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Preceding Thrina in death were her parents; her husband, Hardine; her son, Archie; and one brother, Anund Tufte.
