Thorvald Alfred Kompelien, son of Ole Kompelien and Siri (Thone) Kompelien, was born in Westerheim Township, Lyon County, Minnesota, on September 5, 1891. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in St. Lucas Lutheran Church. On February 5, 1914, he was united in marriage to Emma Johnson. To this union, one son, Earl, was born. Both his son and wife preceded him in death. In 1921, he moved to northern Minnesota. There he lived until he married Petra Theodora Trandahl, November 9, 1922, at Dawson, Minnesota. This union was blessed with three children, namely, Ardith, Pernilla and David. Mr. Kompelien farmed in the Clarkfield community until March, 1939, when he moved to the Porter community and farmed until his retirement in 1956. They lived in the Porter community until September when Thorvald sought medical aid. He was a patient at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis and the Clarkfield Hospital. For the past two weeks, he resided at his home in Clarkfield. He re-entered the hospital October 22, 1960, and passed away the following morning at the age of 69 years. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Petra; his daughters, Ardith (Mrs. Martin Reishus) of Cottonwood, Minnesota, and Pernilla (Mrs. Marvin Anderson) of Hazel Run, Minnesota, and his son, David, who resides at home and works in Montevideo; six grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters, Chris of Madison, Minnesota, Theodore of Cottonwood, Minnesota, Mrs. Mary Anderson of Goodrich, Minnesota, Otto of Minneota, Minnesota, and Clara (Mrs. Albert Martinson) of Cottonwood, Minnesota. His parents, four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. IN MEMORY OF THORVALD A.
