IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas A.
Lecy
August 31, 1912 – May 5, 2001
Thomas A. Lecy was born August 31, 1912, at the home of his parents, Norman and Kjirsti (Katie) (Anderson) Lecy in Sioux Agency Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was baptized September 29, 1912, at Rock Valle Lutheran Church. As a young man he renewed his baptismal vows. Tom attended school through the 8th grade and also attended the Morris School of Agriculture. Tom and Myrtle (Bothun) were united in marriage on November 14, 1935, at Granite Falls, Minnesota. This union was blessed with four children: Marlene, LaVerle, Gene, and DelRay. The Lecy's enjoyed farming and spent many years at it. Upon retiring they moved to Clarkfield, Minnesota. He was a faithful member of St. Lucas Lutheran Church and also a member of the Farmers Union. Tom and Myrtle spent many years traveling and camping. Tom passed away on Saturday morning, May 5, 2001, at the Clarkfield Care Center at the age of 88 years, 8 months, and 4 days. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle, daughters: Marlene (and Claude) Green of Long Prairie, Minnesota, and LaVerle (and David) Albu of Wabasso, Minnesota; and sons: Gene (and Toni) of Marshall, Minnesota, and DelRay (and Karen) of Staples, Minnesota. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brother Gayle (and Norma) Lecy; sister Alma Skalbeck; and sister-in-law Hildora Lecy. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; one sister; two brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; one grandson-in-law; and three infant grandchildren. Blessed be his memory. "Reflections on Our Dad" Thomas enjoyed working in his woodshop in his basement until his health failed. He made toys or furniture for his children and grandchildren. He truly enjoyed making "brain teaser" puzzles to challenge the family. Thomas and Myrtle were "snowbirds" for many years, spending their winters in Texas. It was a trip they looked forward to each year. During their camping years, they traveled to all states except Alaska and Hawaii. In the later years, Dad traveled down a much rougher road. He spent a part of every day visiting Mom at the Care Center, just hoping to see a smile. At the Care Center, he was thought of as "a real gentleman" and to some, the "grandpa" they would like to have had. Thomas enjoyed playing games with the family. He enjoyed 750, Yahtzee, Dominos, challenging the grandchildren to a game of pool, or working on a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle. Shortly before he became ill, Thomas was presented with a computer. Even at the age of 88 he was at the keyboard and mouse trying to see what he could do. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, neighbor, and friend. We will truly miss him.
