Thomas Peter
Grevstad
August 7, 1881 – October 7, 1966
Thomas Peter Grevstad was born August 7, 1881, at Sykkylven, Aalesund, Norway, one of the seven children of Lars and Hannah (Tronstad) Grevstad. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith and also confirmed by Rev. Ostby in the Sykkylven Church. At the age of seventeen he came to America, to his uncle, Severt Thompson, near Echo, Minnesota, where he worked for two years. He then came to Clarkfield, Minnesota, and purchased a farm in Swede Prairie Township. He was a charter member of Israel Lutheran Church and donated the land for the church and cemetery. In 1913 and again in 1936, he visisted his homeland, where he met Louise Grevstad. On October 20, 1927, they were united in marriage, later that fall returning to their farm. There they lived until March of 1964, when they sold their farm and moved to their present home in Clarkfield. He entered the Clarkfield Community Hospital on September 19, 1966, where he passed away on October 7, 1966, at the age of 85 years. He is survived by his wife, Louise; two brothers: Sigvart of Clarkfield and Sverre of Norway; one sister, Mrs. Hannah Eide of Norway; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Mary (Mrs. Chris Peterson) of Clarkfield, Cornelia (Mrs. Louis Olson) of British Columbia, Canada, and Clara (Mrs. Peter Fargelid).
