Theressa "Berniece" Oakland was born on June 15, 1918, in Clarkfield, Minnesota, to Henry Oakland and Hilda (Winson) Oakland. She was baptized and confirmed in rural Clarkfield and graduated from Clarkfield High School. Following graduation and teachers training, Berniece taught country school for four years. She then worked at Swift and Company in Montevideo, Minnesota, the Clarkfield Creamery, and served several years as the Clarkfield City Clerk. In 1960 Berniece completed cosmetology training at St. Cloud Beauty College, St. Cloud, Minnesota. She owned and operated Berniece's Beauty Shop located in downtown Montevideo. Berniece was a kind, caring person. She cherished her relatives and had many circles of friends and all were very vital in supporting her big smile. She was a faithful Circle and Ladies Choir member at Our Savior's Lutheran and also enjoyed dancing, cards and bingo. Berniece, 85, died at Luther Haven Nursing Home on Tuesday evening, May 4, 2004. She is survived by her sister, Linnea (Velde) Gabriel of Richfield, Minnesota; nephew Bruce Aasen of Bemidji, Minnesota; nieces: Debbie Aasen of Brigentine, New Jersey, Colette (and Craig) Sherland of Eagan, Minnesota, and Gabrielle Heard of Naples, Florida; three great nephews: Shawn and Andrew Sherland and Christopher Aasen; and many wonderful friends. Preceding her in death were her mother and father; step-father Melvin Velde and his wife Florence; and a brother Myron Velde. Officiating, Pastor Donald S.
