Theodore Hegna was born March 11, 1897, three miles south of Clarkfield, Minnesota, in Friendship Township, Yellow Medicine County, the son of Halvor T. Hegna and Marie (Eikeness) Hegna. He was baptized by Rev. O.C. Farseth in Clarkfield Lutheran Church, and confirmed by Rev. O.T. Storaasli in the same church. Ted, as he was familiarly called, grew to manhood on the farm where he was born. For many years he was a well known figure in threshing circles in this area and counts many friends who were sorry to see him come to such an untimely end. Since his father's death in his early youth, Theodore had been his mother's right hand man. Death came to him on Saturday, March 14, 1953, just three days after his 56th birthday, the result of a motorcycle accident. Preceding him in death were his father, and an infant brother. Surviving are his aged mother, three brothers: Louis and Halvor of Clarkfield, and Joseph of Minneapolis; and one sister, Mabel (Mrs. Morris Brekke) of Montevideo, Minnesota; besides numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
