Thelma O. Idland was born April 21, 1902, in Hazel Run Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the daughter of Hans and Thrina (Gunderson) Johnson. She was baptized at the Hazel Run Lutheran Church and received confirmation at the Bergen Lutheran Church. On February 12, 1931, she was united in marriage to Sverre Idland of Circle, Montana, by Rev. O.J. Erickson of Granite Falls, Minnesota. Most of her life was spent in the Hazel Run community with the exception of three years when she and her husband were employed in defense work in Rapid City, South Dakota, Athol, Idaho, and Layton, Utah, and four and one-half years in Willmar, Minnesota. She and her husband also operated a grocery store in Clarkfield, Minnesota, for a short time. In May, 1972, Thelma's health began to fail. After being hospitalized in the Clarkfield Hospital, she was transferred to Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis where she had several minor surgeries. At the Rochester Clinic she learned she had a kidney ailment. She has been a Hemo-Dialysis patient since that time. In September 1973, she and her sister Hazel moved to Willmar where she has received treatments. On Friday, February 3, 1978, Thelma passed away en route to General Hospital in Litchfield, Minnesota. She is survived by three brothers: Stewart and Guy of Clarkfield, Eddie of Prospect Park, Pennsylvania; two sisters: Gladys Edmunds of Clarkfield and Hazel Johnson of Willmar, Minnesota. Preceding her in death was her husband, Steve; two infant sons; her mother and father; two brothers, John and Raymond. IN MEMORY OF THELMA O.
