Thelma Isabelle Johnson was born on May 9, 1906 on a farm two miles west of Hanley Falls, MN. She was the daughter of Simon and Mary (Joel) Simonson. Thelma was baptized on June 24, 1906 and confirmed in June of 1922 at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church. She died August 25,1997 at the Parkview Nursing Home in Belview, MN. Thelma attended the Hanley Falls public school and graduated in 1925. After graduation she spent 17 months in Regina Saskatchewan where she attended business school. She returned to Hanley Falls where she worked for three years for R.C. Seipp who was U.S. postmaster and editor of the Hanley Falls Press. On May 9,1936 she married Elver J. Johnson. Two sons, James and Charles, were born to this union. Thelma was a life long member of Yellow Medicine Lutheran Congregation and a strong participant and supporter of the Ladies Aid. Thelma is survived by two sons, James (Kim) of Denton, Texas and Charles (Sharon) of Savage, MN; a sister, Alvhild Bottge of Renville, MN; a foster brother Roy Berg of Maryland; five grandchildren: Evan Johnson of St. Cloud, MN, Elaine Fink of Palmer Lake CO, Eric Johnson of Coon Rapids, MN, Kirk and Kristin Johnson of Denton, Texas; three great-grandchildren and a host of special friends. Thelma was proceeded in death by her husband Elver of 49 years and two brothers, Marcellus and Oscar. Thelma will be missed by her family who will remember her as a kind, loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Blessed be her memory.
