Thelma Gwendolyn Brovold was born on August 19, 1914, in Sanborn, Iowa, to Thomas and Florence (Kimble) Dagel. She was married to Benford Brovold on June 28, 1939, and moved to Boyd, Minnesota, in 1945 where she lived until December of 2000 when she moved to Bethany Home, an assisted living facility in Litchfield, Minnesota. She has two children: a daughter, Crystal and a son, Jan. She was a devoted wife and mother and was very active in the community of Boyd, serving as City Clerk and Assessor for a number of years. She loved being involved in school activities, serving as PTA president for several years and she organized the original "Mother Singers". In her church, Trinity Lutheran, she was church treasurer, president of the Ladies Aid and a longtime member of the church choir. Thelma died, surrounded by her family, on Monday, December 29, 2003, at Bethany Home, following a short illness at the age of 89 years, 4 months, and 10 days. She is survived by her daughter Crystal and her husband Ron Ebnet of Litchfield, Minnesota, and her son Jan and his wife Sandra of St. Peter, Minnesota; two granddaughters, Kelly Ebnet and Kerry Herker; three grandsons, Trevor, Travis and Troy Brovold; and five great grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters-in-law: Doris Brovold of Granite Falls, Minnesota, Eileen Pyle of Clarkfield, Minnesota, and Mamie Amundson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ben; her parents; and three sisters: Evelyn, Opal and Ruth.
