Thelma N. (Benson) Berg was born on April 22, 1910, in Stony Run Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to parents Thomas O. and Bertina (Eide) Benson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was an active lifetime member of the Bergen Lutheran Church. She attended rural school in District No. 4 where her parents, in their youth, had attended and also her 10 siblings. In later years she taught there. She graduated from the Lutheran Normal School in Madison, Minnesota, and from the Montevideo Teachers Training Department. She taught eight years in the Yellow Medicine County rural schools. On June 16, 1940, she and Stewart Berg were united in marriage at the Bergen Lutheran Church. They lived on the Berg farm until 1985, when they moved to Granite Falls, Minnesota. Thelma passed away on Friday, December 22, 2006, at the Granite Manor at the age of 96 years and 8 months. She is survived by her two children: Leslie (and Meredith) Berg of Hudson, Wisconsin, and Corrine (and Keith) Benson of Robbinsdale, Minnesota. She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Kari (and David) Hermansen, Kristin (and Derek) Wise, Angela Benson, and Ryan Benson and her great grandchildren: Taylor and Maia Hermansen. Also surviving are her siblings: Ruth Laemmle, Minnie Johnson, Linda (and Hilman) Korstad, Thoralf (and Myrtle) Benson, and Oliver Benson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Stewart in 1994; brothers Theodore, in infancy, Harold and Eldor; and sisters Esther Dahlgren, Ellen Weigt and Corella Rasmussen.
