Sylvia M. (Peterson) Miller was born August 20, 1905, in Friendship Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to parents Nicolai Njolstad Peterson and Gustava (Lende) Peterson. She graduated from Clarkfield High School and later from Minneapolis Business School. She worked in Minneapolis and the bank in Clarkfield, Minnesota. Sylvia married Lestof August Miller on August 31, 1930, in Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, where they farmed for many years. After the death of Lestof, in 1972, she moved to Clarkfield. She was a member of Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Sylvia was an important part of the quilting group of the church. Sylvia entered the Clarkfield Care Center in February of 2000 and was a resident there until her death. She passed away on Saturday evening, November 22, 2003, at the Care Center at the age of 98 years, 3 months, and 2 days. She is survived by her two sons: Gene Miller of Willmar, Minnesota, and Howard Miller of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She is also survived by three granddaughters, two grandsons, four great granddaughters, and one great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, seven sisters, and three brothers.
