IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sylvia Amanda
(Gunderson) Winson
May 30, 1909 – May 8, 1967
Sylvia Amanda Winson, the youngest of the family of Simon B. and Agneta (Eide) Gunderson, was born on the family farm just south of Clarkfield, Minnesota. Her mother passed away when she was just 13, so her older sister, Gurina, returned home and kept house for the family. She attended school three years in the district west of the Selmer Foss place and then was one of the group that rode in the very first school bus to make the trip to the Clarkfield School. She was baptized by O.T. Storaasli, and confirmed by Rev. O.M.O. Wee at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church where she has been a life member. On February 16, 1927, she was united in marriage to Clarence Winson of this community. He preceded her in death in 1965. Three children were born to this union: Audrey, Sherman and Richard. The family farmed south of Clarkfield near the home place until Mr. Winson passed away. Since then Sylvia took a course in nursing work and was employed at the Marshall Nursing Home. She was active in the American Legion Auxillary and the Friendship Mission Circle of the ALCW. Her health had been failing for several years and after a period in a Minneapolis hospital, she was convalescing at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Leland McCoy. She passed away at the Clarkfield Community Hospital on Monday morning, May 8, 1967, at the age of 57 years. Her cheerful disposition carried her through her years of illness and within hours of her departure. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. She will be greatly missed by her children: Mr. and Mrs. Leland McCoy, Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Winson, all of Clarkfield, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Winson of Richland, Washington; seven grandsons and a granddaughter; and her three brothers and sister: Gurina (Mrs. Rey Mauland) of Clarkfield, Bennie Ludvig and Alvin Gunderson, all of Minneapolis; and a host of relatives and friends.
