Sylve Pauline Hawkinson was born in rural Clarkfield, Minnesota, to parents Alfred and Rachel (Ness) Hawkinson on October 13, 1916. She attended rural grade school and graduated from Boyd High School as Valedictorian. One of her earlier jobs was a telephone operator in Canby, Minnesota. About the age of 30, she went to Liberia, West Africa as a Missionary. She spent six years there before returning home to care for her parents in their last days. She also worked at the Farm Service Office in Clarkfield for 14 years. Sylve was a Sunday School teacher and Superintendent and served wherever needed at the church. Sylve moved to Brookside Manor of Montevideo, Minnesota, from her home in Clarkfield and lived there for two years before moving to Luther Haven of Montevideo in September 2005. She passed away at Luther Haven on Tuesday, January 31, 2006, at the age of 89 years, 3 months, and 15 days. She is survived by her brother Arlo Hawkinson of Marshall, Minnesota; sister Fern Landmark of Montevideo; and two sisters-in-law, Mildred and Margaret Hawkinson, both of Clarkfield. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Howard and Russell.
