Sverre Idland was born December 22, 1900, to Aadne and Marie Idland in Gjestal, Norway. He was baptized in the Gjestal Lutheran Church and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Circle, Montana. For the past 35 years he has been a member of the Hazel Run Lutheran Church and was serving on the Board of Deacons. On February 12, 1931, he was united in marriage to Thelma Johnson of Hazel Run by Rev. O.J. Eriksen of Granite Falls, Minnesota. Most of his married life was spent on the farm with the exception of three years during World War II when he was employed in the defense plants at Rapid City, South Dakota, Athol, Idaho, and Layton, Utah. During the first years of married life, Sverre worked as a foreman for WPA. Later he went into contracting and operated a tile plant. For a short period, he and his wife operated a grocery store in his building, the former Jacobson Market on main square in Clarkfield. The past years he had been employed by the Hempel Brothers and Associates of Granite Falls. At the time of his death he had retired from construction work and was doing estimating for the Hempel Brothers. On Saturday, July 23, 1966, he was taken suddenly ill at his home and entered the Clarkfield Hospital on Sunday morning, where it was learned he had suffered a heart attack. He passed away early Wednesday morning, July 27, 1966, at the age of 65 years. Preceding him in death were two infant sons, his father, mother and a brother, William. He is survived by his wife, Thelma; eight sisters and two brothers: Jensine, Arthur, Selma (Mrs. Gunliev Garpestad), Ada (Mrs. Olaf Tu), all of Circle, Montana, Serene (Mrs. Gene Walker) of Glendive, Montana, Mary (Mrs. Arthur Jensen), Bertha (Mrs. Earl Ayers) of Billings, Montana, Sherman of Fairfield, Montana, Gladys (Mrs. Warren Ferch) of Libby, Montana, Irene (Mrs. Duane Arthur) of Riverton, Wyoming; and 32 nieces and nephews.
