Miss Susanna Martine Droen was born on the Droen farmstead in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to Anders Larson Droen and Inger (Olson) Droen on November 30, 1889. She was baptized at the Bergen Lutheran Church by Rev. O. Lokensgaard on December 26, 1889, and confirmed at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church on April 16, 1905, by Rev. J. B. Reinertson. She attended country school north of Clarkfield. She devoted most of her life to taking care of members of her family. Her mother died when she was very young and she remained at home to help care for the family. She and her brother, Andrew, cared for their father and remained on the farm after his death in 1925. Andrew passed away in 1955 and she went to live with her sister, Mrs. Jeanette Bue, in Minneapolis during the winter months, returning home to the farm in the summer. She cared for her sister for about a year and a half. After her passing, she returned to Clarkfeld in June to live with her only remaining sister, Mrs. G.M. Anderson. Susie's health began to fail in 1967 and she was hospitalized at different times but seemed to recover until in January of this year when she entered the Clarkfield hospital and there passed away on January 19, 1970, at the age of 80 years. Sewing was her hobby. She was active in church functions and taught Sunday school a number of years. She is survived by her sister, Tillie (Mrs. G.M.) Anderson of Clarkfield, and a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and four sisters.
