Steven Dean (Pemberton) Carlson was born on November 30, 1953, at Montevideo, Minnesota, to Inez C. and Gordon Dean Pemberton. He was baptized at Broadview Heights, Ohio, and dedicated to the Lord at Clarkfield, Minnesota. Steve graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1971. He attended one year at Wesley Bible College and one year at NEI. Steve and Joy Ann (Pierce) Carlson were married on May 22, 1975, at Willoughby Hills Friends Church in Willoughby Hills, Ohio. He loved being a grandpa. He loved to play golf, electronic darts, and read. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Clarkfield and had been living in Clarkfield for the past few months. Most recently Steve was working as a supervisor at Jennie-O Foods in Montevideo, Minnesota. He was able to attend his benefit last Saturday and enjoyed seeing family and friends. Steve passed away early Thursday morning at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, Minnesota, after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 47 years, 3 months and 20 days. He is survived by his wife, Joy, of Clarkfield; and his children: Debbie Carlson, Angela (and Chris) Nelson, Jon Carlson, and Paul Carlson. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Dakota, Morgan, Kimberly, Josh, and Meagan Ramos; sisters: Judy (and Rob) Goedert and Kathy (and Terry) Dornbusch; and six nephews and five nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents: Inez and Howard Carlson, and Gordon D. Pemberton; and grandparents: Henry and C. Faye Appelseth, and Louise and John L. Pemberton; and niece Penny Richardson.
