Arden Elvin Lynne was born in Clarkfield, March 10, 1901, the oldest of three sons born to Andrew and Gina (Hansrud) Lynne. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and a lifetime member of Clarkfield Lutheran Church. In 1921 he graduated from Clarkfield High School and as a young man worked at carpenter, print shop, and grocer. After the death of his father, he joined Oscar Melbostad in the City Dray Line business, until he went into the grocery business in 1942, which he owned and operated until retiring in 1965. Mr. Lynne served several years on the parochial school board, civic and commerse committees, acted as fire chief for the local fire department, and was interested in all forms of sports. He had been in failing health the past ten years and entered the Clarkfield Care Center July, 1972, where he remained until he entered the local hospital. Arden passed away, April 14, 1975, at the Clarkfield Hospital where he had been a patient for 2 1/2 months. On September 16, 1925, he was united in marriage to Esther Anderson and to this union eight children were born: Wesley and Arden, Jr. of Clarkfield, Richard of Black River Falls, Wisconsin, Margaret (Mrs. R.S. Weingartner) of Denver, Colorado, Mary (Mrs. John Solien) of Aitkin, Minnesota, Elizabeth (Mrs. W.K. Houle) of Salinas, California, and Stanley of Ortonville, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ralph (in 1951); granddaughter, Ann Carol Lynne (in 1972); and two brothers: Melford and Clifford. Besides his family, those who mourn his passing are two nephews: Merle of Minneapolis and John of Clarkfield; one sister-in-law, Elsie Hilden; and two cousins: Elmer and Oscar Melbostad.
